At Basset Hound Haven, distance shouldn’t keep you from bringing home your new family member. We work with families across the United States to arrange safe, comfortable transportation for their puppy.
Whether you live nearby or across the country, we’ll go over your location with you and arrange the transportation option that best suits you and your puppy.
Before your puppy travels, a USDA-accredited veterinarian examines them to make sure they are healthy and ready for the journey.
When required for your destination, the veterinarian prepares a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) and any other necessary health documentation in accordance with the requirements of the destination state and, where applicable, the airline or transportation provider.
Your puppy also goes home with a complete record of age-appropriate vaccinations and dewormings, Microchip identification and registration details, Signed 2-year written health guarantee contract, Starter kit including food, a scent blanket from their mother and littermates, and care instructions and AKC registration paperwork, where applicable.
We can arrange different transportation options depending on your location, your puppy’s needs, and the requirements of the journey.
In-Cabin Flight Nanny
For longer distances, your puppy can travel in the main cabin with a professional flight nanny who cares for them throughout the flight.
The flight nanny accompanies your puppy during the journey and coordinates the handoff when you meet at the agreed airport or meeting location.
Ground Transportation
For closer destinations, or for families who prefer not to fly, we can arrange ground transportation in climate-controlled vehicles.
Depending on the route and transportation provider, the journey includes appropriate rest breaks, fresh water, and comfortable bedding.
Pick Up in Person
If you prefer to make the trip yourself, you are also welcome to arrange an in-person pickup and take your puppy home directly.
We know how exciting it is to wait for your puppy to arrive.
On travel day, we keep you informed throughout the journey. Depending on the transportation method, you may receive photos, flight information, location updates, and a message when your puppy arrives safely.
We stay in communication with you so you know what to expect from the beginning of the journey until your puppy is in your arms.
Delivery generally costs $300 to $600, depending on your location and the transportation method selected.
We provide the exact delivery cost in writing before you pay your deposit, so you know what to expect before the delivery arrangements are finalized.
There are no unexpected delivery charges added after the transportation arrangements have been agreed upon.
Our puppies go to their new homes between 8 and 10 weeks of age, depending on their individual readiness and the arrangements for their new home.
Airlines, states, and transportation providers may have their own age, health, and weather requirements. Before booking transportation, we confirm the appropriate travel date, transportation method, and meeting location with you.
This helps ensure that the delivery arrangements are suitable for both your puppy and your destination.
Before delivery, we’ll confirm:
The transportation method and estimated travel schedule
Where and when you’ll receive your puppy
Any required travel documentation
What you should have ready at home for your puppy’s first day
We’ll stay in touch with you from the moment your puppy leaves our care until they arrive at the agreed destination.
Travel plans can occasionally be affected by circumstances such as airline delays, cancellations, severe weather, or transportation issues.
If a change affects your puppy’s scheduled journey, we’ll contact you as soon as possible and work with you to arrange the next appropriate travel option.
Any additional costs resulting from a change in transportation will be discussed with you before new arrangements are confirmed.
We work with families across the United States. Because transportation and health requirements can vary by destination, we review the requirements for your location before arranging your puppy’s travel and confirm the appropriate transportation option with you.
We recommend discussing delivery arrangements as soon as you reserve your puppy. This gives us enough time to coordinate the transportation method, travel schedule, required documentation, and meeting location.
Your puppy comes with their health record and, where applicable, the Certificate of Veterinary Inspection and AKC registration paperwork.

The type of updates available depends on the transportation method. For air travel, we can provide applicable flight information, while ground transportation may include location updates and other travel communications.
We’ll explain the available updates when your puppy’s transportation is arranged.
